The third training course on community-based youth work for sustainable development in the EU and Africa and cofounded by Erasmus+ took place in Kisumu (Kenya) between the 6th-12th of February 2023, hosted by Resource Hub for Development. The training brought together participants from CYSD partner organizations from Senegal, Uganda, South Africa, Togo, Ghana, Italy, Greece, and Zambia.
During the seven-day training, the participants were trained by various stakeholders from civil society organizations and social service workers in Kenya involved in the protection of children’s rights. Some of the topics covered included Reflection and exploitation on child abuse, Violence against children, Children in alternative care, Sexual exploitation and abuse, Enabling national policies and programs on disaster risk reduction and management among others.

The participants also visited the Kisumu County Children’s officer’s office to gain a better insight into the roles played by the government of Kenya in child protection. Focus group discussions and group work presentations were used to assess the participant’s understanding of the topic.
The training was also a good opportunity for intercultural dialogue and the exchange of good practices from different countries to build more inclusive and sensitive communities.
From April 2023, the partners will be engaged in new transnational experiences, the so-called “job shadowing” activities, to exchange about: Gender equality, empowerment & socio-professional development of disadvantaged groups including migrants, young women, and other vulnerable people; active participation and empowerment of young people and children living in rural areas among others.
